A
qualifying school was first introduced at the end of the 1997/8 season
in order to reduce the number of players on the tour which had
previously been unlimited. It was not used again for many seasons.
At the end of the 2010/11 season a new system of qualifying for the tour was introduced and named Q-School.
Under this system three events were held, back-to-back, at the end of
the season open to anyone who paid the entry fee and including those
who had just been relegated from the tour. Each event was played down
to the last four who would automatically gain a tour place giving a
total of twelve places from this source.
